Ministries >> Youth

The Youth Ministry program at First Presbyterian Church seeks to lead students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, to create a loving environment that draws youth in the journey of faith, and to prepare students to be useful servants in Christ's Kingdom.

PRESBYTERIAN YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

On Sunday nights we meet in the Parish Building (a.k.a. The Shed) to grow in faith through fellowship, service activities, and topical discussion.  Junior High students (grades 6-8) meet from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.  Parents provide dinner for both the Junior and Senior High students from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. Senior High students (grades 9-12) then meet for their time of fellowship together from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY

On Wednesday nights, when S.A.L.T. is not in session, we meet to dive deeper into the Bible. This is a great time to take a break from the week and check in with one another. The Junior High meets from 5 to 6 p.m, and the Senior High meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Snacks are provided during this time.

CAMP HOPEWELL RETREATS

During the spring semester, our youth will be taking a trip to Camp Hopewell, located just outside Oxford, MS. At Camp Hopewell, youth get to disconnect from the daily grind and connect with one another to grow in faith through worship, small group discussion, team activities, and fellowship.

SERVICE PROJECTS

The youth at First Presbyterian Church participate in regular service projects throughout the year, including the Youth Can Make a Difference Canned Food Drive.  We are also involved with the Youth Matter Ministries, providing hotdog meals to those in need. The youth help wrap hotdogs every first Wednesday.

In addition, youth have participated in local mission trips to the Palmer Home for Children in East Mississippi, as well as international mission trips, including previous trips to the Dominican Republic and Belize.

During Spring Break 2023, the youth are taking a ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

During the summer, our Senior High students join other youth groups from across the country for a week at Fun In The Son in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Junior High students will be attending The Great Escape at Twin Lakes with other youth groups from across the region. These conferences are a wonderful opportunity for students to grow in faith and fellowship together!

OTHER FUN ACTIVITIES

Sometimes we just have fun together! We have been on numerous outings and trips together. Some of these include trips to Moon Lake, pool parties, bowling, ice skating, shopping, backyard BBQs, trips to Rainwater Observatory in French Camp, and more!
